I found a co-signer for my bike! A friend! I did a double-take when he agreed, but I'm super grateful and holy shit I'm excited! We find out Monday Tuesday if everything went through, which it will *knocks on wood*, and Thursday I get to pick up my new Kawasaki Ninja 500R (2002, 26,000km). It's not super hot like the SV650, but it's a decent-looking bike. This is it - my bike in Powersports:

*fingers crossed* that the financing will go through with my friend as a co-signer.
And sure, he'll have partial ownership, and he'll get to use the bike sometimes, but really it's a favourable arrangement for both of us. I get a new bike, he gets a bike he can use for free.

And the payments are no more than what I'm already paying, the insurance is exactly the same as what I'm already paying, I don't have to dish out so much money on maintenance for a warranty, it won't need a new rear wheel for a while, and it's got as many kms on it as I was planning on putting on my 125 this year anyways. I'm super excited!! And anxious! Fuck I really hope the financing goes through!

I decided on the 500 because yesterday while riding G's SV650, I dropped it. Yes, I dropped someone else's bike. My boyfriend's bike. BUT I was practically walking it, doing a u-turn, and the damn thing is so top-heavy and just heavy that once it started to tip there was nothing I could do but brace myself and try to let it down as gently as I could. The ONLY thing that broke or scraped was the clutch lever, which I replaced before bringing it home. Of course I told him about it, but he took it really well - I was so nervous. But the clutch lever was all fucked up anyways from its previous owner, so really I brought it back better than when I took it. Still, that sucked. And my back and hip are sore. Anyways I figured since the SV650 is so top-heavy and difficult for me to manage in tight spaces, plus it's more insurance ($211/month rather than $115/month), I should go with the smaller, sportier, lighter bike.

... yay! ^_^

Canada Day: Went with G and his friend to Calabogie to spectate at the motorcycle track day. SO good - the roads to Calabogie were fantastic, watching the laps and those awesome bikes was fun, and the weather was nice.

After we got back to Ottawa we had a quick nap, then headed out to his friend's place for sushi but we were late and ended up getting there as they were leaving for a pub crawl. We hung out for a bit at the pub, ate some food, he drank a bit. We left the pub just in time to get to the market to watch the fireworks, then hung out at a small house party with G's friends. Didn't get wasted, didn't really party much, but had a good time.

Today I moved in with Sterling and Phil. Should be fun!
I am thinking of giving up on the Ortona house so I can save money for a bigger bike. hm. Big nice house or big nice bike... hmmm. Taking 500m to pass people on the highway is pretty sucky - and this location is pretty convenient. haha

upgrading is more difficult than it should be Jun. 30th, 2009 @ 10:48 am
I went to Goodtime yesterday to look at more bikes. They had better prices and better bikes, and could get me more money for my 125. They also actually LOOKED at my 125 to assess it before going having me sign papers. I looked at a CBR600, applied for financing for it. Then I called my insurance and decided on the SV650 instead. Either way, the ONLY way I'm going to get a bigger bike is with a co-signer. And my parents refuse.

Goodtime also said that I need to replace the rear tire of my 125 within 500km. It's getting dangerous. I can't afford to replace that tire, but selling the bike costs me nothing - oddly. I need to sell the bike before it depreciates any further from riding it so much. But shouldn't Powersports have mentioned something about the tires when they looked at it 2 weeks ago? It was at 8400km.

Powersports called yesterday about the application for the Ninja 500, also wondering about a co-signer. I said it's not going to happen, my parents refuse. The dude said he'll try to figure something out, but it's not looking good. And the loan difference is less than $1000.

Damn. My credit isn't bad, my score is mid-way, around 650. Sure, it's not great, but it's not bad either. There are minor infractions like missing a few payments 3 years ago. And they say there is an infraction from this year. It's probably the bounced Honda payment that came out a day early.

Powersports finding a forgiving lender, or my parents suddenly changing their minds, are the only way I can upgrade. I thought this was supposed to be easy. ha

Ugh, I really don't want to ride that 125 for the rest of the year. I'm going to destroy that bike if I keep riding it like I do, and I'll lose even more money on it next year when I sell it. Selling it WILL happen, so it makes sense to sell it now rather than later.

10,000km, time to upgrade Jun. 27th, 2009 @ 09:12 am
Last night I hopped on the back of my friend's 599. It purrs. It sounds *so* nice. He took us around the airport, I watched fireflies glow in the bushes as we passed by. He showed me this section of highway where the on/off ramps make a sort of circle, and it was awesome being on a bike that can speed up to 140km/h in seconds. After that ride, we picked up my bike then went over to Meech Lake and hung out in the warmth of the wind coming off the water until about 1am. Then we drove back to town, and I went home. It was a great night.

Today we went to Mont Tremblant then up north a bit to the 105, and back to Ottawa. The whole trip was about 500km, and the 125 is now at 10,003 km. We swam in an isolated, small, warm lake, rested on a floating dock, ate dinner in Tremblant, and drove through many swarms of bugs on the way home. A super fantastic day. We switched bikes for about 15km, he let me ride his 599. Nervousness melted away into total joy after only a few seconds, and I fell in love with it - couldn't stop giggling, laughing, and grinning.

So I looked around on autotrader, and found the bike I want. It's affordable - if I sell my bike I can buy this one. It's hot, almost new, undamaged, less kms than mine. It's in Toronto, but that's ok. I e-mailed the seller to see if he's willing to wait until I can sell my 125. Yes, it's really unlikely that he'll wait, but who knows. Either way, it's definitely time to upgrade. Hopefully the 125 will sell for $3000, and hopefully it won't take long. The ad goes up tomorrow morning after I take some photos.

Today was an amazing day.

I promise I'll stop talking so much about the bike soon Jun. 25th, 2009 @ 02:37 pm
Another fun weekend!

Went out for a ride on Friday night, decided to stop by Elgin St and see what was happening. Went to the Elgin St. Freehouse and ran into some friends! What a cool suprise. :)

Saturday morning I rushed off to get ready for an overnight trip to a rustic, isolated cabin near Gracefield. We left late anyways, and my bike wasn't much of a fan of the sandy dirt roads leading up to the place so we lost time by going slow. After some wrong turns heading back into town for mosquito coils (there were SO MANY bugs), and a quick swim in the town lake, we finally got dinner going around 10pm and ate by midnight. But the dinner was delicious, the company great, and the night was good. The next day was a relaxed morning of lazing, cooking and eating, then driving around to find Lac Dumont. We found it, had a quick swim, and made it back to town only an hour late.

Had only one scary moment: I nearly lost control when I hit a patch of sand on pavement turning off the 105 at about 40km/h. The rear wheel slipped out to the side and the bike suddenly dipped but either I corrected it or maybe the sand just ended, and everything worked out.

My goal is to hit 10,000km by July 1st. I'm at 9400km right now, and planning a trip to Montreal this weekend. If I take the bike, and go for a ride in Gatineau on Saturday, I'll get to 10,000 easily. I want to hit 25,000km this riding season, I want to do some road trips! I want to go to the States! I am totally addicted to riding my motorcycle. ^_^

----------

Also, I am moving in with some friends on Main St. as of July 1st. I can't stay at home, the nice place on Ortona still isn't ready, I can't find anyone to live with me in the other place on Ortona, and the place in Hull was just way too expensive with having to register the bike. So, Sterling and Phil will be my new housemates. Should be fun. It's no 2-storey, 3 bedroom house on a half acre property, but it's nice and I think it'll be cool to live with friends, and great to live so close to downtown.
I am feeling a little: : chipper
